Alternators often fail from age and misuse. You might have changed the alternator but if the battery is not good it still won't charge. I have replaced alternator, ovp, and tested cabling.
I swear the dme is just not telling the car to alternator to charge enough.
About a week ago i was driving my 2003 cl55 and my display showed the red system not charging message. Generator is not charging battery. Check that alternator is charging battery properly and change battery to see if you still getting same issues. There are other problems that can occur such as bad battery connections or a failing.
